A short story to share with the children in your life to help them understand that they are important to Jesus, and so are their feelings. You can begin with something like this:

Did you know that God loves to hear from you? He cares about everything in your life, your big feelings, your little wishes, and even your everyday moments.

Just as a good father or a kind friend would, God wants to talk with you. You can tell Him when you're happy, when you're sad, or when you want something small, like sunshine on a cloudy day. God is always listening. He loves you so much, and He's with you every single day.

Story

One day, it was rainy and gray outside. I prayed and thanked God for the day. I asked Him if maybe the sun could come out, even though it didn’t look possible. Later, I also asked if I could finish my work a little early so I could get home before dark.

Guess what? The sun came out, bright and shining! And I finished work just in time to get home with light still in the sky. It wasn’t a huge miracle, but it made me happy. God showed me that He cares about even the little things in my life.

Truth

God is like a loving Father and a kind Friend. He wants us to talk to Him about everything, our hopes, our worries, and even small wishes. Sometimes He answers in ways that surprise us, and sometimes He says, “Not now.” But His love never changes.

Scripture

  • “Cast all your cares on Him, for He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)

  • “The Lord is near to all who call on Him.” (Psalm 145:18)

Activity Idea

  • Sunshine Prayer: Draw a picture of a sun. Inside the rays, write or draw small things you’d like to talk to God about (like a favorite toy, a friend, or a happy moment).

  • Friendship Roleplay: Pretend you’re talking to your best friend, then practice saying the same things to God in prayer. (For instructions for this activity, visit the activity page!)

Takeaway

God loves you. He wants to walk with you every day, at school, at play, at home. You can talk to Him anytime, about anything, because He is your Father and Friend.

The coloring page included is a way for a child in your life to share their heart with God. Each sunray is a space where they can write or draw something they want to tell Him; it could be a prayer, a hope, or a way to say thank you.
